Kinsale Youth Support Services facilitated Kinsales first Darkness into Light walk in aid of Pieta House on May 12th 2018.
With a turn out of over 1200 people in Saile Community Sports Complex, Kinsale Youth Support Services express thanks and gratitude, while also acknowledging the solidarity between all our communities to show support to those that lost their lives by suicide and to people who are self-harming.
Kinsale Youth Support Services raised €28,964.28 all of which monies goes directly to Pieta House. The monies will enable Pieta House to continue to provide a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm.
Pieta House stated that, in 2018 over 200,000 people took part in Darkness Into Light at 160 venues across the globe before dawn on May 12th 2018, crossing the finish line as the sun began to rise. It was an emotional day, and, as always, the highlight of our year. Darkness Into Light is our flagship fundraising event, and allows us to continue to provide free counselling sessions for people who are in suicidal crisis, people who are self-harming, and those who have been bereaved by suicide.
