Posted by KYSS on Tuesday 11 February 2020

This talk will be presented by Liam Doocey who is an accredited Life & Parent Coach with the International Authority for Professional Coaching & Mentoring.

Liam Doocey has worked as a professional youth worker in Cork for over 28 years.  He has extensive experience in working in the areas of sexual health and drugs/alcohol.  He holds an MA Degree in Youth & Community Studies from Brunel University (London), and a BA (Hons) Degree in Humanities (majoring in Sociology) from University College Cork (UCC) as well as a Diploma in Youth & Community Work, also from UCC.

Ireland has changed, and with it the task of parenting has also taken on new challenges.  In his talks, Liam quotes an old rabbinical saying which states; ‘Do not confine your children to your own learning for they have been born in a different age’.  This has never been truer than for this generation of young people who are learning and exploring the world in a way that previous generations could only have dreamed of.  Dealing with topics such as Social Media, Bullying, Sex, Self Esteem, etc.
Liam’s talks are designed to encourage parents/guardians to think and reflect on their own particular parenting challenges whilst also giving practical advice on how to deal with some of the issues that might arise.

Liam recently co-wrote and published a book entitled, ‘Sex & You: a modern Irish perspective’ ©2016 Doocey, L., Grogan, M. & O’Toole, Y.
This book may be of interest to any adult and particularly adults in a parenting role of teenagers and young adults.

Liam is a parent and has a daughter aged 20 years and two sons aged 18 years and 4 years respectively.
